Fire Hydrant Valves

A fire hydrant valve is the outlet valve at a hydrant or hose point, taking water from the fire main and delivering it to a hose coupling. It combines an isolation function with a defined outlet connection, and both matter: the valve has to hold pressure while closed for long periods, then pass rated flow as soon as it is opened in an emergency.

Angle and straight patterns cover the usual arrangements, with the angle form turning the flow from a vertical riser or bulkhead penetration out to the hose. Bonnets are bolted or screwed, the bolted form being easier to overhaul in service. Bodies in this range are bronze Rg5 and CuSn10 with cast steel alternatives, at DN40 to DN65 and PN16, which are the common hose sizes.

Coupling type is the specification that most often causes a problem, because hose thread and quick-coupling standards vary by country and by fleet.
