Description
The ACV ratio reducing valve is a piston inside a body with no external piloting, and cannot be adjusted or tampered with. It reduces an upstream pressure to a downstream pressure in the ratio chosen: for example, a 20 bar inlet reduces to 10 bar on a 2:1 valve, or to 6.7 bar on a 3:1 valve. It operates on the principle of differing piston surface areas: on a 2:1 screwed-ratio valve, the upstream piston surface area is half that of the downstream surface area, and other ratios are obtained by altering that area relationship. Under no-flow conditions the piston closes to ensure the downstream pressure does not exceed the prescribed ratio. This is particularly useful on systems where demand patterns cause large upstream pressure fluctuations, as it avoids the very low outlet pressures that a fixed-set-point PRV would deliver at low inlet pressures. Supplier remarks
- An isolating valve is recommended both upstream and downstream for servicing; consider two valves in parallel so one can be removed for servicing while the other stays in service.
- A strainer upstream is recommended, though the valve is largely tolerant of dirt particles.
- An intermediate 65 bar flanged rating is also offered. It is a working pressure rating, not a standard flange drilling class, so confirm the drilling at quotation.
